LONDON:Esomeprazole, commonly known as Nexium, is a drug designed to treat the symptoms of certain types of cancer, but it's unclear if it actually works.

Esomeprazole was initially developed to treat a condition where the stomach produces too much acid, and doctors believe it may help the body fight the cancer.

Esomeprazole was approved by the US Food and Drug Administration in 1997, and is now the leading drug on the U. S. market.

AstraZeneca has announced that the company will be launching a new version of its own heartburn drug called Nexium to replace a previously approved version in the US that has been found to cause gastrointestinal side effects.

The company said: "AstraZeneca has decided to launch a new version of Nexium, the first treatment to be developed to help patients return to the normal heartburn routine.

"The Nexium is the company's first and only non-prescription version of Nexium. It is available at a lower cost than Nexium, allowing customers to order it without having to pay for a doctor's prescription.

"The new Nexium is specifically designed to reduce the side effects of acid reflux and gastro-oesophageal reflux disease, while providing patients with a lower-dose option for relief.

"This innovative new version of Nexium will provide patients with a lower-dose option for relief of acid reflux and gastro-oesophageal reflux disease. Patients can order the drug for a lower price without the need for a prescription.
